Financing sustainable plastics
Dr Stephen Spratt, Director at Just Economics, was the lead author of a position paper on financing sustainable plastics for the International Negotiating Committee of the UN Environment Programme.
Dr Stephen Spratt researched and prepared this key financing position paper for the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee. The purpose of the paper was to support the development of an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (INC-4).
The paper was discussed at a meeting in Ottawa in April 2024, with a final, fifth session in Busan, South Korea, in December 2024. The financing position paper was a key input to these INC processes, where financing of the transition to a sustainable value chain for plastics was discussed.
